Here at Snohomish Family Dentistry, we are proud to help your child with his or her first dental visit.
Many parents want to know when they should bring their children in for their first visit.
The answer is a little bit confusing because there is no specific answer! Typically, the first visit should happen around the child’s first birthday; however, many children should be seen prior to this date because they have developed earlier. You should plan on bringing your children in about six months after they have gotten their first tooth or around their first birthday (whichever is first).
Children are susceptible to decay and cavities just like adults. In fact, one in every four children in the United States has at least one cavity by the age of four. For this reason, you need to bring your children in to see us regularly.
During your first appointment we will talk about how to care for your children’s mouth, which oral habits to encourage and which ones to discourage, links between diet and oral health, and finally the proper use of fluoride. After the first visit is complete, we will suggest a schedule for future follow-up appointments. Typically these happen every 6 months; however, the time frame can change depending on what we see.
After you leave our office you will have an understanding of the development of your children’s teeth and what to expect in the future. You will also have your next appointment already scheduled.
